Client Appraisals

Why is an appraisal important?
Before commencing an exercise programme with me, you are required to undertake an initial health and fitness appraisal. This will allow me to assess your needs and therefore design a suitable programme for you.

What happens during an appraisal?
During the appraisal we will spend some time discussing your health and you are required to complete a health screening form, we can address any concerns you may have at this time.

We will assess your overall abilities and/or limitations in order to devise a suitable programme for you. We will also discuss your goals and ambitions to determine that they are realistic and how they can be achieved.

Depending on your goals it may be necessary to carry out a number of tests to assess your health and fitness.  This will be decided on an individual basis and may include:

  • Body measurements (Arms, Chest, Waist, Abdomen and Hips)
  • Cardiovascular fitness test
  • Strength test
  • Range of movement assessment
  • Diastasis Recti and Pelvic Floor Strength/weakness check (for post-natal clients only)

Personalised Training Schedules

I will design a training schedule to meet your individual needs, goals and time available. During each session I will ensure that you are exercising with correct and safe technique, offer encouragement, support, advice and feedback.

Exercise for Special Populations

  • Post-Natal women who would like the reassurance of one to one care

“the ultimate fitness class for mums and babies”

The Times

Why Come to Buggyfit?

buggyfitBecause there has never been a better time to make sure you’re in the best possible health to look after your little one.

As you’re faced with hormones causing turmoil, sleepless nights and a little bundle of joy taking up every second of the day it can be difficult to find the time to do anything else.

Buggyfit is a fantastic way to start exercising safely shortly after childbirth. It’s not just for newly post natal mums though, if you have a baby or toddler in a buggy then you can come to buggyfit

At Buggyfit you’ll reap the benefits of outdoor exercise in a fun and social environment, meet other mums, burn calories, increase your energy and stamina, improve your posture, tone and strengthen your core muscles, and baby comes with you so no need to worry about childcare!

The other benefits of taking part include:

  • It’s an hour for YOU
  • It provides group support for new mums
  • Taking part in an effective and safe postnatal workout with a qualified instructor
  • Motivating you to exercise regularly
  • Relieving Stress
  • Feeling better about yourself

And it’s a safe pregnancy workout if you are already carrying your next baby!

What’s involved in a Buggyfit Class?

The class will last for one hour and will include a warm up followed by some power walking, strengthening exercises using your own body weight or resistance bands, pelvic floor work and core strengthening. The session will end with a cool down and stretching.

Classes take place in variety of outdoor locations whatever the weather!

When Can I start?

As soon as you have had your GP check (usually 6 weeks post natal or 8-10 weeks for c-section) and they have confirmed that you are OK to exercise.

What to wear?

  • Layers of clothes are ideal, we will get warm even in the colder weather
  • Suitable footwear such as trainers or walking shoes
  • A good fitting support bra, this doesn’t need to be anything expensive, as long as it gives you more support than your everyday bra.
  • Hat, scarf and gloves (for mummy and baby)

What if it rains?

  • REMEMBER: There’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing!
  • Unless the MET office tells us not to go out, we will be out whatever the weather so please always come prepared.
  • Don’t forget to keep your babies nice and snug, we may be getting warm as we are exercising but they will need to be wrapped up so remember your foot muff, blanket and rain cover.

What will you need to bring with you?

  • Drink for mummy and baby
  • A snack for baby / toddler
  • Something to keep your toddler occupied such as toys or book, just in case they get bored of watching mummy exercising!
  • Rain cover / sunshade
  • A picnic blanket or towel in case we do any floor work, weather permitting of course!
  • Completed health screening

And finally...

Feed your baby before coming to class so that baby isn’t hungry. This means you can get an hour for YOU.  It also means that you will be more comfortable if you are breast feeding.
